Wellbeing

Our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and other practitioners in psychology, counselling and social work provide 1-1 counselling, reflective practice, cultural supervision, executive mentoring and mediation services. We also provide healing and wellbeing training, strategy and policy.

Overview

Our ABSTARR Wellbeing program turns fear into confidence.

Our program and services are led by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander practitioners, with qualifications in psychology, clinical psychology, social work, counselling and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health practice.

Aims

The Well@Work©™ program aims to ensure:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees have access to culturally safe wellbeing and Employee Assistance Program (EAP) supports
  • Non-Indigenous employees and supervisors who work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees have the skills and confidence they need to become culturally safe supervisor and colleagues.
  • Wellbeing, healing and social and emotional wellbeing (SEWB) programs are culturally safe.

Practice Principles

ABSTARR Consulting Well@Work observes and applies the following principles in practice:

  • Strengths-based: assuming cultural, technical, and expert knowledge already exists within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and work in a way that promotes and strengthens this knowledge.
  • Trauma-informed: being cognisant of the underlying intergenerational, post traumatic and current traumatic stressors that impact on individual, family, and community functioning.
  • Community-led: working in a way that supports and enables Aboriginal community self-determination, according to local, regional, and state-wide protocols, principles and ethics.
  • Evidence-based: drawing on the western scientific knowledge base and paradigms, while ensuring Aboriginal sciences and knowledge are foundational.
