About Us

Professor Gregory Phillips established ABSTARR in 2007, first as a sole trader, and then in 2018 as a company (proprietary limited).

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples have managed the country and seas for sixty millenia or more in perfectly symbiotic and sustainable ways. These knowledges survived through genocide and colonization, and ABSTARR’s mission is to balance these sciences and knowledges with western science to offer effective and sustainable solutions to today’s workforce and workplace problems.

About us

Aboriginal knowledges are good for everyone

Jump up and travel with the light…

In 1990, Uncle Arthur Peterson, Waanyi Elder, told Gregory Phillips his dreaming story:

“In the dreaming, before there was any light, two young fellas were walking along in the dark. One decided to stay in the dark, and one chose to jump up and travel with the light. That’s you… shooting star. You decided to jump up and travel with the light.”

Gregory’s nephew, Aaron Kopp Junior drew this story, and we came up with ABSTARR’s logo/s.

Our Artwork

In 2024, to acknowledge that our Team was strongly Queensland and Victoria based, we asked Emma Bamblett, a Gunditjmara …… and … woman to come up with a new artwork that described ABSTARR’s vision and work.
